Why I Let a Wheel Make My Business Decisions
And Why You Probably Should Too
Tired of overthinking every tiny choice in your business? Here’s how a simple decision-making wheel saved my brainpower, my sanity, and maybe even my lunch order.
Forewarning: this article might be slanted towards Singaporeans, because well, I’m one too. But, the points are valid for all, globally.
I Built a Tool Because I Couldn’t Decide What to Eat
If you’ve ever spent more time choosing between nasi lemak or chicken rice than actually eating it, you’re not alone. As a web-app and software developer in Singapore who’s been coding since the 1990s (yes, that’s a long time — I used Netscape), I’ve noticed a trend: business owners like us waste an incredible amount of time making small, repeat decisions.
And I don’t mean the big strategic kind. I mean the “should I email this prospect now or later?”, “do I offer a 5% or 10% discount?”, or “should we go with design A or B for our landing page?” kind of decisions.
After years of hearing the same indecisiveness from clients and living through it myself, I snapped. I built a Decision Maker Wheel — a simple web app that literally spins a wheel and picks an option for you.
Sounds childish? Maybe. But it works.
Why Business Owners Are Secretly Exhausted
Let me hit you with a bit of psychology here — because even developers read.
There’s this thing called decision fatigue. It’s the concept that your brain has a finite supply of decision-making energy each day. Every choice — no matter how small — chips away at your cognitive power.
Ever wonder why Mark Zuckerberg wears the same grey T-shirt every day? Or why Steve Jobs swore by his black turtleneck? It wasn’t a fashion choice. It was a mental strategy.
Now, I’m not suggesting you become a cartoon character with a uniform (unless you want to — Singapore is hot anyway). But wouldn’t it be nice if some of those tiny daily decisions could just be outsourced?
The Wheel Was Born from My Own Decision Paralysis
Here’s the honest truth: I didn’t build the wheel for users. I built it for myself.
It started with lunch. My brain was fried from writing 1,000 lines of PHP, JavaScript, and CSS. I didn’t want to think. I just wanted food. But deciding what to eat felt like taking the PSLE all over again.
So I coded a wheel. I added “chicken rice,” “nasi lemak,” “ban mian,” and “just skip lunch.” I spun it.
It landed on nasi lemak.
And it was glorious.
Then I started using the wheel for other things:
- Should I reply this client now or later?
- Should I post on LinkedIn or TikTok today?
- Which logo design should I use?
And soon… clients started using it too.
Real-Life Use Cases From My Clients
One of my clients runs a small café in Tanjong Pagar. She uses the wheel to decide which daily special to push. “Fish and chips or chicken chop?” she asked the wheel. It spun. Chicken chop won. Sales increased. Coincidence? Maybe. But her life got easier.
Another client owns a tuition centre. He uses the wheel to decide which class gets a promo code each week. His students love the gamification of it. It’s fun, and it gets results.
A friend who runs an e-commerce site? He uses it to pick which product goes on Instagram promo each day. “It takes the guilt out of choosing one over the other,” he told me.
This is all real. These are business owners who are smart, serious, and tired of overthinking. The wheel helps.
How the Wheel Actually Helps Your Brain
Your prefrontal cortex (that’s the brain bit responsible for decision-making) is like your phone battery. Every little thing — replying a WhatsApp, choosing a file name, picking an emoji — drains it.
When you offload some of that to a tool (even a wheel), you preserve your decision power for the stuff that matters:
- Negotiating that big deal
- Planning your next product launch
- Or surviving Monday
There’s science to this: freeing up mental energy boosts creativity, reduces stress, and increases your focus. No surprise that your best ideas come when you’re relaxed — not when you’re stuck choosing what font to use.
But Isn’t a Wheel Just a Gimmick?
Yes. And that’s the point.
Business doesn’t always have to be serious spreadsheets and stress. Sometimes, you need a break from being the boss. Let a digital wheel decide.
And let’s be honest: how many times have you flipped a coin in your life — only to re-flip it because you didn’t like the result? At least my wheel comes with cool colors and doesn’t fall off the table.
Also — the wheel doesn’t judge you. It doesn’t say, “You should work harder” or “You already had chicken rice yesterday.” It just spins.
What It Looks Like: Try It Here
Yes, this is the part where I shamelessly plug my project.

The Decision Maker on GetchaSystem.com is free to use. No login. No tracking. No creepy AI voice. Just a colorful wheel that helps you make quick choices.
Need to choose a package name? A promo code? A video topic? A client to follow up with? Spin the wheel. Move on. Get things done.
Practical Ways to Use It in Your Business Today
Here are some cheeky, but genuinely helpful ways you can use the wheel right now:
1. Marketing Decisions
- Which product to promote this week?
- Should I run a Facebook or Google ad?
2. Team Tasks
- Who’s buying kopi today?
- Which backlog bug to squash first?
3. Customer Engagement
- Let customers spin for a discount or freebie.
4. Personal Routines
- Which book to read next?
- Should I skip the gym today? (No judgment.)
Behind the Scenes: Building It as a Developer
I built the wheel using standard front-end tech: JavaScript for the spin logic, CSS animations for that satisfying spin, and PHP backend in case you want to customize it.
It’s responsive (of course), mobile-friendly, and designed to be as frictionless as possible.
Fun fact: I almost added a sarcastic voice-over that says things like, “Really? You need a wheel for this?” But I decided to be kind.
What I’ve Learned from Letting Go
Since using the wheel myself, I’ve noticed:
- Fewer delays in launching features
- Less stress deciding between equally good options
- A lot more fun in daily operations
Clients report the same thing. In fact, some tell me they now spin it just for the thrill — even if they already know the answer.
And that’s a beautiful thing: when work becomes just a little more playful.
Business Doesn’t Have to Be Boring
We get into business to be free — not to be stuck in loops of tiny decisions.
So why not let a wheel help out now and then? It won’t replace your strategy or vision. But it will help you preserve your energy for the things that matter.
And hey — you might even have fun along the way.
What Will You Decide Today?
If you’ve read this far, you probably have something to decide right now. Try the wheel. Then tell me what it chose.
Leave a comment if you’ve ever been stuck on a silly decision. Or share how YOU deal with decision fatigue in your business.
Because the truth is: business isn’t just about making the right decisions. It’s about making them fast, confidently, and without losing your mind.
And sometimes… with a smile.
